This program focuses on disclosures related to climate change made by corporate actors in the extractive sector, including initiatives to get communities and civil society organizations to reach out to extractive companies, including state-owned enterprises, about voluntary disclosures in accordance with accepted international standards and practices. The focus will also be on the climate-related opportunities available to communities
The extractive sector is the second major source of climate change, accounting for one-quarter of total world greenhouse gas emissions. To address the issues of climate change in the extractive industry, we work on climate solution projects based on the priorities of local authorities, communities and organizations, with a focus on the environment, human rights, equity, and justice. Some of our efforts try to address concerns such as ASM's use of mercury, water contamination, deforestation, and land degradation.
